Haley H Johnston

Haley is a wilderness guide, outdoor educator, and recreation advocate based in Southcentral Alaska. She cares deeply about wild spaces, access to public lands and the health of the ecosystems that human, animal and plant communities call home.

Over the past decade, she has traveled thousands of miles on expeditions in some of the Alaska’s most remote environs by foot, packraft, splitboard and skis, but also enjoys daily recreation close to her home in the Chugach Mountains.

Haley has guided professionally in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and most of Alaska’s National Parks, including Katmai, Lake Clark, Denali, Kenai Fjords, Wrangell-St. Elias, Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley. She also enjoys exploring less well known, but no-less-spectacular, destinations in Alaska. In 2020, she launched Tundra Travels to offer environmentally responsible, authentic backcountry trips to adventurous clients.

Haley works to expand access to public lands through her work with Alaska Trails. She also serves on the Chugach State Park Citizen Advisory Board, is the co-chair of the Chugach Park Fund and is an ex-officio member of the Denali Borough Trails and Outdoor Recreation Committee.
