Grand Canyon 2017
I spent 21 days floating from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek with 15 friends, some new, some old. I showed up with no expectations, little experience in the desert, having done almost no research. I didn't even bring a camera (all photos were taken on an iPhone) - figuring the world didn't need another photo of the Colorado River or its environs. But I was blown away - it turns out the Grand Canyon is rather scenic. Who knew?
What surprised me most was all the fun to be had in the side canyons - trail running, hiking, canyoneering - these slots, oases and slopes made my trip. While for most visitors, the river itself is the draw, (it was fun to packraft big water and improve my rowing skills) for me the river was the conveyor belt that delivered us from one beautiful side canyon to another.
I would recommend a trip through the Grand Canyon to anyone - I'm already looking forward to going back. I'll end this here - there is nothing I could say about the Grand Canyon that hasn't already been said more eloquently in the canon of desert writing. Enjoy the photos!
